The Society was originally founded in 2001 by Phil Stonier, Dennis Stallard and Barry Brereton. The three of them travelled to Castle Douglas for a golfing weekend and played at Colvend, Kirkcudbright and Brighouse Bay Golf Clubs. It was so enjoyable, they decided to go back again the following year. Each year the size of the party has grown to where we are today.
After a few successful years, it was decided in 2007 to form a Society so that we could play competitive golf throughout the year and not just on our September Tour. It was agreed that the membership of the Society would be by INVITATION ONLY and drawn mainly from family and friends.
The playing calendar consists of nine Society Days during the traditional golfing season with an Annual Tour comprising of two nights in a hotel and playing three rounds of golf. At all of our events there is the traditional Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive Competitions to add interest to the Day. Most of our Society Days are held in the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire areas.
In 2009 as well as the Stableford Order of Merit Competition, we introduced another Order of Merit Competition for stroke play. This to be awarded to the player with the lowest gross stroke play score with handicaps not being taken into consideration.
In 2010 we also introduced our website to improve communication, hold information, records of results, photographs and save the Secretary time and energy. The emphasis is placed firmly on the member to decide where and when they want to play and inform the Secretary.
The Society has grown over the years and roles have been introduced to help out in organising the events. We have a Captain, Secretary, Fine Master, Handicap Secretary and others who help to organise the collection of green fees and decide order of play. We are a very informal group with an emphasis on enjoyment.
